Applying for a passport in Ghana can be overwhelming and time wasting if you want to go by the traditional approach. There often several processes involved in the passport application process in Ghana. While you can not entirely go through all the processes online, it will save you the burden of having to travel to the passport office for the initial phase of the process.

In this article we will cover all the various ways to apply for your Ghana passport online and also address some of the of frequently asked questions.

How to Apply for a Passport Online in Ghana

How to Apply as a New User from Ghana.gov

Step 1: Open the Ghana.gov website by visiting https://www.ghana.gov.gh/

Step 2: Select Passport Office

Step 3: Click on Apply at the bottom right of the webpage.

Step 4: Select Sign up at the top right of the page

Step 5: Enter your details as shown in the screenshot below

  • Click on “Continue” after completing the details
  • A One Time Password (OPT) would be sent to the phone number provided during the registration.
  • Enter the OTP and hit “Continue”
  • Click on “Apply”
  • Search for the Passport Office
  • Click on “Apply”
  • You would be redirected to a different page as shown below

Click on “Authorize” to enable the application share your details with the Passport Application portal

Step 1: Visit the passport website using this address: https://passport.mfa.gov.gh/

Frequently asked Questions about How to apply for Passport online in Ghana

Expired Passport Account

Kindly create an account on Ghana.gov with the same email address and phone number you used for your passport account to enable you to have access to your old account. To do that, read “Existing User Coming From Ghana.gov”

Inability to access previous application due to Expired Account

Your previous application is not lost. You will find the passport application form you purchased when you;

  • Visit the passport website (passport.mfa.gov.gh)
  • Click on Existing User? Login Here
  • Click on Sign Up to create an account if you do not have one. (NB: Your email address must be the same as the one you used on the passport website)
  • After successfully going through the account creation process and being redirected to the passport website, click on “My Application”.
  • Click the “Uncompleted Applications” button.
  • Fill the form
  • Sign declaration using the otp sent to your email address/ phone number
  • Book Appointment

Inability to Rebook Appointment due to Expired Account

If you are unable to rebook your appointment because you receive ‘expired account’ notification, please create an account on Ghana.gov to enable you to have access to your old account and rebook your initial appointment. Also, read the following carefully and follow the process.

To be able to rebook, you have to wait for the date you chose for your first appointment to end before you rebook.

If you have already been to the passport office but could not fully process your application due to some documents you did not have on you, you cannot rebook. You can go to the passport office and complete the application. (Kindly use Google Chrome if you have any issues with rebooking)

Kindly follow the following steps to rebook if you have not already been to the passport office:

  • Visit the Passport website
  • Click on Existing User (create a new account on Ghana.gov with the same email address and phone number as your passport account if you have not done that already.)
  • Click on Sign Up to create a new account with reference to the above.
  • After successfully creating the account, you will be redirected to the passport site to enable you to rebook the appointment.
  • Click on My Application
  • Click on “History”
  • Select “Rebook Application” and select the application you want to rebook.
  • Select a “Passport Application Center” (PAC) of your choice
  • Select “New appointment date” [Choose available date shaded white]
  • Click on “Book Appointment”.
  • Click on “Print Slip” to print new appointment date

Meanwhile, if you are unable to rebook the appointment after this attempt, visit the passport center for assistance.

Inability to locate form after payment

  • Login to your Ghana.gov account
  • After the redirection to the passport website, Click on My Applications at the left side of the page
  • Click on Uncompleted Applications
  • Click on the form to start filling it.
  • If you do not find the form there – click on “Payment made – no form issued” to see what you need to do.

Payment made – no form issued

If you have made payment but cannot find your form in your account, kindly provide us with the ff in a mail:

  1. Momo ID:
  2. Momo Number:
  3. Invoice ID (Email received from Ghana.gov after making payment):
  4. Email Address:
  5. Date of Payment:

Inability to sign declaration

Kindly cross check the email address and phone number you are using to ensure that it belongs to you and corresponds with what you entered into the system during the account registration process.

You should be able to proceed if you are using the genuine number and email address.

Also, ensure that you have a strong internet connection.

Inability to Book Appointment

Follow the steps below to book an appointment:

  • Visit https://www.ghana.gov.gh/
  • Click on Passport Office
  • Click on Apply
  • Enter your credentials when the Sign In appears.
  • After successfully signing in, you will be redirected to the passport page.
  • Click on “My Applications”
  • Click on “Uncompleted Applications”
  • Click on the form there
  • Fill the various sections of the form
  • Sign declaration using the otp sent to your email or phone.

NB: After signing the declaration form, you will have access to the appointment page.

  • Proceed to book appointment
  • Select the PAC of your choice (NB: Applicants who select the Premium PAC will pay an additional fee of GHC 150.00)
  • Select an “Appointment Date “:
    • Available days are shaded “White”,
    • Booked days are shaded “Black”,
    • Blocked days are shaded “Green”
    • Past days are shaded “Grey”.

After choosing the available date that is more convenient for you, scroll down and click on the book button to confirm booking.

Inability to Rebook Appointment (from Ghana.gov)

  • Click on “Book Appointment”.
  • Click on “Print Slip” to print the new appointment date.

Unavailability of Witness

If your witness is unavailable, kindly print the appointment sheet and ask a commissioner of oaths at any Post Office to do the corrections.

At the PAC, alert the officers who will make the change in the system before the approval process.

Need to make Corrections

Once you submit your form, you cannot make any corrections to your form. You will need to go to the passport office on your day of appointment with a supporting document for the necessary changes to be made.
