He was enrolled in West Laurens High School where he began playing both basketball and American football. He was recruited by Georgia Tech Yellow Black’s.

Demaryius Thomas started playing as a wide receiver for the Raiders football team, with John Kenny being the coach of the team.
In 2004, Demaryius recorded 32 receptions for 330 yards and three touchdowns, as a junior. Due to his five performances, Demaryius was named the Georgia player of All-region and all-Heart. During his senior years, he recorded 82 receptions for 1,234 yards and ten touchdowns.
He participated in the North-South All-Star game, and was again chosen as an All-region and all-Heart of Georgia for the second consecutive time. He was also included in the Class AA all-state first team by Atlanta Journal Constitution. It also named him as the Prep star to its All-region team.
