Blake Shelton Biography

Blake Tollison Shelton was born in Ada, Oklahoma, to Dorothy Ann (née Bristol) (b. 1936), who owned a beauty salon, and Richard Lee “Dick” Shelton (1940–2012), who worked as a car salesman. Shelton showed an interest in singing from a young age, and by the time he was 12, his uncle had taught him how to play the guitar.

At 15, Shelton composed his first song, and at 16, he was honored with a Denbo Diamond Award in his home state.

Tragically, on November 13, 1990, his older brother, Richie Shelton, died in a car accident at the age of 24.

After finishing high school at 17, Shelton relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, to chase a singing career. There, he found employment at a music publishing company, and in 1997, with the assistance of Bobby Braddock, he secured a production contract with Sony Music.
