Cybill Lynne Shepherd was born on February 18, 1950 in Memphis, Tennessee. Her father, William Jennings Shepherd, was a manager of a house appliance business while her mother Patty was a housewife.

 Information about her siblings is unknown. Cybill  Shepherd schooled at Hunter College, the College of New Rochelle, New York University, and the University of Southern California.
